The installation methods of expansion joints are mainly as follows:
Overhead installation
- This installation method is to install the expansion joint above the pipe so that it does not contact the ground or other supporting structures. Generally used under the pipeline has enough space, easy maintenance, while avoiding the expansion joint by the ground debris, water and other factors.
Buried installation
- The expansion joint is installed underground and is mainly used to protect the pipeline system from external loads such as surface traffic and buildings, and does not take up ground space. However, buried installation of the expansion joint corrosion requirements are higher.
Horizontal installation
- Requires that pipes and expansion joints remain level, which is one of the most common installation methods. When installing, pay attention to ensure the coaxiality of the pipeline, avoid the expansion joint being twisted, and ensure that it can be freely expanded in the horizontal direction.
Vertical installation
- Suitable for vertical piping systems, expansion joints compensate for pipe expansion in the vertical direction. When installing, the gravity of the expansion joint itself and its piping system should be considered, and it is generally necessary to set a suitable support structure to bear the weight.
When installing expansion joints, you also need to pay attention to the following details:
- Ensure that the piping system is clean and free of foreign matter such as impurities and welding slag, so as not to damage the expansion joint.
- Install in accordance with the installation length required by the design, and after installation, the expansion joint needs to be pre-stretched or pre-compressed to meet the expansion requirements of the pipeline system during operation.
